Backstab's Waterloo Frosh Week Report

- This can be disgustingly boring to some of you. You've been warned. I suck at writing.

Day 7 | Day 6 | Day 5 | Day 4 | Day 3 | Day 2 | Day 1

Day 7

I woke up at 10:40 today. This is the first day in which I didn't wake up before 9:30. That's crazy isn't it? Also, my math email is working! You people can email again.

Well today was pretty lame. I missed the closing ceremonies. Oh well. Today's black and gold day and not a lot people wore yellow and black. I wore a yellow T-shirt and black cargos. I was elite.

Then we headed off to Galaxy Theatres. Galaxy Theatres was located at some mall in Waterloo. The mall is about the size of the old hillcrest mall. It's pretty small. When I got there, I was really hungry. But we had a pep rally, which I didn't know. It was so gay, it lasted for so long and ... yeah it was lame, all I wanted was food.

So at about 2pm. I went to get some fake chinese food at the foodcourt at the mall. Then we went to see Rush Hour 2. It was pretty good, I thought it would be a lot worse. We then mall ratted for a while, didn't buy anything.

We then ate the best dinner of the week at Seoul Soul, a korean/japanese restaurant. It's pretty expensive, my beef teriyaki dinner was $15, but it was good. Asian food owns.

Toga Party starts at 8:00 pm, I was thinking of trying to use Liston's idea by just wearing normal clothes and hanging a sign on my neck that says "C-SAH" or something funny like that. But I didn't and just wore my clothes in. That part was ok... the DJ didn't mix anything because it was a video dance. So it was sorta gay. I was a little buzzed and I was singing to like all the songs that I'd put on the shit list. Some cool songs they played were, Song 2, Twist and Shout and Groove is in the Heart. Anyhow, after the party we went to chilled a friend's room until 3:30 am then we headed back.

Thus ending the Frosh Week and my last entry on this page. I've had fun. Bibi.

Day 6

So I woke up today and did the lame English Language Proficiency Exam. What a waste of time. The topic was "why do people go to parties?" HAHA. The funniest thing was that our friend Paranoid Lunatic (Jon) threw up during the middle of the exam because he drank too much last night. From what I heard, HAHAHAHAHA, and they're asking why you should go to parties. AHHAHAHAAHAH... anyway that really wasn't funny. That might be one of the reasons why the elite Liston put him at #1 on his Top 5 People List. He managed to finish the exam anyway.

I headed off for lunch at 11:30. Then it was Junkyard Wars with the engineers. It's basically like the TV show on TLC. We had to build a thingy that picks up cans. The materials that were given were a chainsaw, lost of wooden planks, cardboard box, duktape and a whole bunch of other crap. Our group's thing was like a wheel barrow that has a broom. I left early because Tommyboy got a headache from the insane heat. Shit it's hot.

Me and Tommyboy then headed off to The Bombshelter at the Student Life Center for the Software Engineering dinner. We watched a live band called "gnus" or something like that perform. They were pretty skilled, and even played songs by Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band and that song "Brown Eyed Girl". Elite.

After that we went to the faculty of Math bonfire. They announced the result of the Math SCUNT, and it turned out that our Frosh group WONNED. GG, that was ez. SE owns your bones.

Then we headed off to Fed Hall to the Festival for The Ages. That was pretty cool. Me and Tommyboy are both underage, but we were allowed to drink somehow, the bouncer messed up big time. He looked at my WATCARD and my ID (it says I was 18) and he was like "good to go". I was like OMFG WTF so I drank beer and I was buzzed for the night. I danced the whole night until that ended. It was sorta lame tho, it ended very early at 12:30.

Day 5

This was a pretty stupid day. After a boring academic session at the MC building, we walked to the Waterloo Park with all the math students for The Tournament. That was really gay in my opinion. We were playing a game similar to soccer with 50 people on each team, and the ball is about 5 feet in diameter. It was so lame, I was wearing glasses and some lamer body-checked me when I had the ball. So I was like screw this and just chilled near the shade.

After pita lunch AGAIN (sigh), we took a shuttle bus back to U of W and joined the engineers. That was lame too. Each team had to present a gift to EDCOM and basically they had to beat the shit out of the gift. Team Fuchsia gave them a styrofoam guitar and EDCOM just fucking beat the shit out of the guitar with a bat. Our team, Indigo, made a fake racecar and we burnt the motherfucking thing. I thought it was cool when we extinguished the thing with the fire extinguisher.

We then met the TOOL, the Faculty of Engineering mascot. It's just a 6 foot wrench. I guess it was cool when they had to fake smoke, sparks and strobe lights. But it had freakin Spybreak playing in the background. I really hate that song ever since it got so popular and overplayed. The fire alarm went off in the Fed hall because of all the fumes. Tommyboy got a headache because of that.

Anyhow, I skipped the Services Tour because I knew it would be fagnostic. So we went to eat dinner at 6, and then it was Monte Carlo Night. THAT was pretty cool. It was semi-formal, but I decided look elite and wore a tie and shirt, with my black nike shoes and black cargos $$. It's basically a fake casino, with a dancefloor in the basement. I learnt that, if you're losing on a table, you should leave. When you're winning, keep playing, that's what happened. I won 40 chips at one, and lost 20 at the other. EDCOM were dealers, hahaha. I thought the dance was OK. The DJ beatmixed alright but he kept doing straight crossfades which is something I don't like.  But that's ok, we had fun.

After that I went back to my room and then we chilled at Etheral's place till 2:30am. Paranoid Lunatic drank a lot, I mean, a lot. He's a machine. Tomorrow we have to take the English Language Proficiency Exam (ELPE). So gay. All engineers have to take it.

Day 4

Oh I forgot to put that in Day 3. We were asked to put a nickname on the back of our shirt, so I said, ok, Backstab. But then the person screwed up and put Backstabber. So I'm stuck with this Software Engineering T-shirt that says "Backstabber" on my back.

This morning we woke up to eat breakfast with our house in a small ass lounge in North 3. It was shittiest breakfast I've ever eaten, 1 bagel and juice? Like wtf, I ate half the bagel and threw the other half in the garbage, and since my stomach was still messed I felt a bit sick after.

Anyway, me, Etheral and Paranoid Lunatic then walked to SLC (student life center) to see if we can get our books. The lineup was long and massive. So me and another guy in SE went to the math building to activate our math email account. We did that and tried to do the same for the engineering account, which is a long walk of about 10 minutes. We got so lost in the Engineering 2 though. We were trying to get to room 1308, the building design was so messed up, it started off with 1302, then 1369, then 1303, then 1305A. Anyway it was confusing and we had to for help. We ended up going around the building and through a garden and 2 corridors, only to find out that our accounts don't work.

We then met up with Etheral and a few people from my floor and checked out Columbia Icefields, the sports complex. That place is freaking nice. Very nice indoor basketball courts + skating rink and equipment rentals.

After lunch we went to take a walk to LCBO because the carnival sorta sucked. It's not that long of a walk, 20 min walk from Village 1. So that was another hour spent. Seriously though, they should have shuttle buses that run from the villages to LCBO. If they have that they'd make so much cash $$. We ate dinner shortly after.

Then it was time for the Math Scunt (scavenger hunt). After a LONG ASS intro we started the hunt. There were lots of stuff to do, even though it was a bit nerdy (like there was trivia with harry potter and shit like that) I thought the activities were cool. Me and Tommyboy went for the capture the flag game. We were assigned to guard the flag and all we did was we hid the flag in one of the engineering building. No one even came close to finding it because EDCOM was all around and all the engineers were doing their scunt, so ya that was pretty ez. Then we played ultimate frisbee... and we owned that too. But the most memorable part about the scunt was probably the code cracking that we did. Basically we had to decode a whole bunch of messages and numbers. We were so close to the finish but the final code was so lame that you have to like do XOR and its coded in ASCII or something gay like that. Me and Tommyboy stayed till 2:30 am for that. Oh well, I guess that was worth it. During the code cracking, I also found out how nerdy some SE people are. They were like thinking of the lamest ways to crack codes, like freaking factorial and taking its reciprocal to the power of 8 or some shit like that. LOL. I was so tired when I came back I just fell asleep. No time to even finish this page.

Day 3

We are, we are, we are the engineers.
We can, we can fix anything with gears.
We work hard, we play hard, we .. (shit i forgot).
Cause we don't give a damn for any damn man who don't give a damn for us.

That was one of the lame chants for engineers. That was pretty much what it was in day 3, faculty orientation. Since I'm in Software Engineering, I'm special... or whatever, I'm in 2 faculties, math and engineering. I get a pink tie and a hard hat, which is quite elite.

During the morning, I tried to eat a muffin. I ate like half of it and threw it away. I then headed off to Student Life Center for the meeting of software engineering. We met EDCOM, who at first I thought were either goths or hardcore metal fans. They look freaky and all, one guy had a mohawk and one girl had bolts and nuts on her hair. Yeah, so WTF is EDCOM? Uh... they're supposed to be the top 5% in Engineering. Like wtf... they talk with an army attitude and all, it's pretty funny actually.

Then we joined up with the math crew. That was pretty boring. We just shouted out crap and ... shouted out more crap. Yeah like one of them was so unbelievable stupid "row row row reduced... " k i'll stop now. Then we got the pink tie.

We then joined up with the engineering orientation, which was better. We had to climb walls which required some teamwork, then we had to race with 3 people walking on planks thingy. To get our hard hats, we had to memorize this oath and swear it in front of EDCOM, plus we had to kneel too. It was pretty funny, I kept forgetting the stupid oath and I had to like do the whole thing again and I finally got my hat after like the 3rd try. Then the engineers went to see a play called "Single and Sexy", it's alright, I don't think it was that good. I got back just in time for dinner.

Then my stomach began to screw up. I have like so much gas in my system. The treble charger concert was coming was the next event, but I didn't feel very well so I decided not to go. Oh well... me, Will, Christine, Dave and a couple others walked around the campus and chilled at Williams. Anyway, we had a nice conversation about how some white people have fucked up mentality and they would introduced themselves to whities only and they don't talk to asians, hahaha. (It's so true tho) On our way back we checked the South Campus Hall. That place looks cool, it has the U Waterloo store in there. I think I'm gonna go buy a hooded sweatshirt there. YEAAAH I think I need one. After Williams I was gonna chill at Dave's room for a while and go back, but I didn't. Instead I talked to a korean dude and a brown dude who were drinking beer outside of North 4 and eventually chilled with those guys for 2 hours. That guy had his TV and dreamcast there. I swear, if those guys were white I wouldn't hang out with them, they'd just avoid you anyway... shiitt am I being racist... no seriously, I've met like so many white people and a lot of them aren't really that nice and friendly.

Day 2

Since I didn't really talk about what happened at night in Day 1, I guess I'll add that here.  Well, me and Etheral decided to walk up a few floors and just talk to people and stuff. After that we were bored, and with a few others we went to the Village One Lounge and saw "The Mexican"... starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts, and man, what a lame movie it was. It was so boring, and it just dragged on, so that was a pretty bad idea. ANYWAY... then we went to our floor's private lounge and watched the Kuerten/Myrni (sp?) game for like 10-15 minutes and we went to sleep after.

Well. Day 2 started off quite well. I somehow woke up at 9 am, without the help of the alarm clock. It took me like a long time to get ready though. I went on ICQ and messaged Guru-mike and Paranoid Lunatic to ask them to go to breakfast, so we did. Just before I left my room, my internet connection just went down, oh well. During breakfast we met up with some other guy from native Waterloo, who was on Guru-mike's floor. It was pretty cool because he was giving us a tour of Waterloo and all after. We went to St. Jerome's and St. Paul's and met up with some dudes from St. Robs. Nothing much done really. We headed back to our rooms. I did a short 35 min mix and encoded it onto mp3, then went to eat lunch shortly after.

Well at 3pm we had a soccer game. It was the most hilarious and hardcore soccer game that I've ever played. At first we were playing with 2 balls, and about 25 people on each side. Anyway, that was pretty fun, but it was so hot.

Later on we had a little house gathering with our don, everyone introduced themselves and we played a few games and ate pizza. That pizza was nasty shit, it was cold and dry. I finally met another software engineering dude, besides Tommyboy. Then we went to the opening ceremonies. I almost lost my voice by yelling a whole bunch of stuff. We were "North Village" so our chant was "cold as ice". There was a few other ones, plus one which was "Ouate le phoque", sounds exactly like "what the fuck" and since phoque means "seal" in French I guess that sorta suites the "North" theme, lol. Anyway the ceremonies were alright, at the end Mike Mandel the hyponist was there, and he basically did the same thing like last time at St Robs, except a few new ones.

When the ceremonies ended it was raining, sigh... I just realized how much it would suck if it rains everyday and I have to walk to my lecture hall and math building. It's like a friggin 10-15 min walk, I'll get all wet, I think I need some hooded sweatshirts, umbrellas are sorta annoying.

Well in general, everything seems to be going well. The washrooms are pretty clean, the shower is strong. The room has no problems so far and my neighbours seem to be cool, so I think that's all I have to say for today. As I'm writing this the internet connection IS STILL DOWN. I hope it'll go back up tomorrow :)

Day 1

Hmm, the morning was pretty boring. I got to Waterloo at about 8:45 am.  I saw Etheral, Guru-mike and a few others. The room... it was alright, I think it's decent, except it doesn't have a towel rack. For some reason, it took like 2 to 3 hours to unpack, and I played the song Hatiras vs J Majik - Spaced Invader on my speakers. After that, I went to get my WATCARD and Frosh Kit at the Student Life Center. Oh, and all the first year students have to wear this red wristband, pretty cool idea.  The Frosh Kit has like weird shit like Tabasco samples, some hair gel samples and a can of soup.

I decided to go outside of campus for lunch since I'm gonna be eating the same stuff for the next 8 months. Unfortunately... me and my parents stumbled into Pizza Hut. Anyway here's where some screwed up things started to happen. We were waiting in line, and then some dude tapped my shoulder and just went "Hey". I was like OMG wtf are you doing here... it turned out to be one of my friends on my old soccer team. His brother, also on that team, apparently lives in the same village, but a few houses across from myself. When we were on our way back, my dad went the wrong way and went to St. Jerome's by accident. What's weird was that I heard some white guy who was an Orientation Week organizer dude yelled out "Hey, I know this guy, it's George." I was like, WTF? Who? At this point I still don't know who that was and I'd like to find out sooner or later... but I believe it's Tim O. who used to go to St Robs.

After my parents left, I began to talk to people on my floor. My next door neighbour turned out to be cool and doesn't mind me pumpin out music too loud. Our friend "Paranoid Lunatic" (on icq) had problems with his internet connection because his mom turned off the power switch by accident and it like totally fucked his network configs. Ouch. I got bored so I began to mix some drum and bass tunes (yes Liston, I brought the ghetto mixer with me$$), it was pretty amazing, I met a few more people while I was mixing with my door room open.

Then me, Etheral, Guru-mike and a few others met up with Tommyboy and we walked around campus. We went to the Student Life Center and read the U of Waterloo newspaper.  In the middle of it there was a whole 2 pages that teaches you the correct positions of having sex $$. Then we went for dinner :P During dinner I met up with some white guy from Edmonton, and what's cool is that he listens to drum and bass and he follows the scene. He told me he has like 100 gigs of MP3s and runs an FTP server at home. So he can hook me up with tunes and such, that is elite.

Ok now I'm back in my room. Etheral just came in and told me to go upstairs to check out the girls' floor. $$$$$$... aight I think that's about it, next update will be tomorrow night.
