Who moved my Cheese

At work, I’ve discovered the bane to my existence. There is a book called “Who moved my cheese? An amazing way to deal with change in your work and in your life.” Apparently it’s some kind of national bestseller. This book is retarded. I haven’t even read it and it seems retarded.

Now your probably wondering, who the fuck am I to pass judgment on something that I don’t even know. Well, I’m Michael Tsang, I can and I will. The basis of my judgment lies in this retyped article on my office wall. It existed before I got here.

The Handwriting on the Wall

Change Happens
They keep Moving the Cheese

Anticipate Change
Get Ready for the Cheese to Move

Monitor Change
Smell the Cheese often So You Know When It Is Getting Old

Adapt to Change Quickly
The Quicker You Let Go of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Can Enjoy New Cheese

Change
Move with the Cheese Enjoy Change!
Savor the Adventure and the Taste of New Cheese!

Be Ready to Quickly Change Again and Again
They Keep Moving the Cheese

When I read it, my first reaction is “What the fuck is this?” This book is stupid and truly a master of the obvious. What really angers me is that it is a national bestseller. I think it’s bad enough that North America has problems with literacy, its down right terrible that those who are literate are reading this.

<>If you ask me, I’d rather read the self-help books written by Calvin, of Calvin and Hobbes. Congratulations Cheese, you have now become the bane of my existence.

Back from Reality

It's been a while since I made any attempts of a more serious post. So anyway, if anyone's wondering what happened to me, or what's with my lack of presence on the site. Well, here's a post that might hopefully answer some of your questions...

Most of you know I was in Vancouver for the past 4 months for my coop term at EA. Work was cool for the most parts, I get to do development stuff (no more web dev thank god) and the perks and everything was great comparing to what I had before. I started playing seriously Marvel vs Capcom 2 during lunch breaks and learnt a few tricks about it. That was good times. It's pretty much almost confirmed that I'm going back there in January. Their studio is huge and got tons of cool stuff, even their caf was pretty impressive with stir-fries monday-wednesday and sushi/sashimi thursdays. However I didn't really abuse their facilities enough, you'll find out why in a bit... I'm hoping to do that next term anyway.

While I was out of work I was really busy with... City of Heroes, I got really addicted at it and even though it got really lame after 2.5 months or so, I kept playing. On top of that there was also the deal with my friend's game (this guy who works at Relic, I met through a friend of my mom's high school friend's son - not joking), where I worked on some of the code and hooked up the sounds for him. I basically had no time to do anything else... well, maybe a few hours during the weekends when I didn't wanna play COH.

Anyway, it was really boring during the weekends in Vancouver after COH got boring, and it's like going out or calling people to do stuff is often possible. So in general, it wasn't so cool. There was this one time I called a friend and just asked him to go downtown with me because I was so bored. We did and we bummed around for like 5 hours and came back. A couple of times I went to work on Sunday to play MvC2 for a couple of hours :(

Oh, and the busses in Burnaby are garbage. I don't think coming in 5-7 minutes early/ 5 minutes late consistently is a very good transit system. It simply sucks to go out anywhere as nothing cool is of walking distance. There's this huge huge mall in Burnaby called Metrotown, then again the only thing I did there was watched a few movies there and ate there a few times.

The two free EA games I got turned out to be FIFA 2004 and Battlefield Vietnam, eveything else I got for $20 each. A pretty good deal. It's too bad that there isn't really anything I was interested in getting... Madden 2005 wasn't out on PC yet and NHL wasn't out obviously.

I was forced to do some shopping today and went to the mall... I spent 15 minutes there and got a new pair of Globe shoes. I also checked out EB and was curious if Madden 2005 on PC was out, and it wasn't. They said they would take Madden 2005 on PS2 for $30.... so technically I could get a 30$ profit, but I don't really like EB and I'm not that shady.

Anyway, my COH account has been cancelled and I'm glad I did... but only, or probably because I'm giving War3 Expansion a shot. It's been 2 years since I 've played any kind of War3 seriously, so I'm pretty bad at it right now. But it's fun and I'm hoping to play this "casually", oh well, we'll see.

I don't really care about this coming school term... I didn't really care or look forward to last term, and it turned out to be my best term (academically), so whatever!

As for drum and bass, I've totally stopped caring about all the "signings" and labels and all because I find that it's pointless to put effort in that stuff. It's not really my thing to be invovled in the scene and I'm glad I still find a bit of time to produce some tunes. I still listen to dnb but a lot of it sucks.

So yeah, this is about all I wanted to talk about for now. I might make a post about NHLPA tomorrow about my thoughts on the lockout.
