Opponents of Fauviau's daughter and son, Maxime, complained to investigators of suffering weakness, dizziness, nausea or fainting. Several were hospitalized.

The Future of (American) Civil Liberties
I read an interesting article earlier today, and it just cements why I enjoy reading arstechnica, because it deals with technological, legal, and scientific interests and goes into greater depth with them, rather than spamming posts like /. tends to.
The article is a pseudo-transcript of a discussion about the balance between Civil Liberties vs. National Security, and the author's own comments. Though not something that directly affects Canadians, we may not all remain citizens of this country forever. There is also the possibility of political influence between countries with such a constant interaction.
It may be a little verbose at times, and the content may warrant multiple readings to fully understand some passages, but I highly suggest taking some time to do so.
It is this kind of knowledge and insight that I wish the majority of Americans knew and understood, so that way they could make informed decisions about important topics. If you become interested by reading this article, and have any American friends who are interested in these topics, be sure to pass it along.
Also interesting are the forum posts that relate to this article, as they provide greater and more diverse opinions and ideas, though with less structure and thorough insight.

Pop culture is retarded
CNN's front page story is "'Crash' wins best picture in upset"...
First of all, the Oscar's are geared towards people who enjoy watching shows like the Simple Life, American Idol and America's Next Top Model. Obviously, these people have absolutely no class and no sense of what good entertainment really is. Don't they know that these shows are written by people in marketing? They have absolutely no substance! It's all about shock value, the writers aren't even really writers!
Second of all, how the hell can a movie upset another movie? This isn't a fuckin sporting event where a team of handicapped individuals pull together to beat the professional team. A movie is a movie, it can't upset another movie god damnit! The academy judges are also experts in marketing and obviously choose the movies that appeal to the America's next top model watching teeny boppers, how the fuck is that an upset?
This is one of the funniest lines I've ever read.
Lee couldn't hide his disappointment backstage. "I don't know the answer," he said when asked why "Brokeback" didn't end up as best picture. "I was backstage, enjoying the kind of buildup I was familiar with. It was a surprise this year for me."
Which means that the CNN reporter went backstage and asked the guy "Why didn't your movie win best picture" WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO SAY? HIS MOVIE DIDN'T GET CHOSEN BY THE CRITICS, WHY THE FUCK ELSE WOULDN'T IT WIN!?
